COMMENT:
Tottenham Hotspur travel to Old Trafford on Saturday 24th April in boyant mood after two consecutive 2-1 home Premier League wins over London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea. Harry Redknapp will be delighted with the form Spurs have shown since their shock FA Cup Semi-Final defeat to Portsmouth at Wembley and the team performances since then have been outstanding. Jermain Defoe scored the first goal against Chelsea from the penalty spot after John Terry's handball and a further goal came from the vastly improved Gareth Bale after being put through by Roman Pavlyuchenko. Spurs dominated the second half, but failed to add to their score and a Frank Lampard goal deep into injury time was simply too little too late for a Chelsea team who had been out-played and out-classed by a rampant Spurs.
Manchester United had earlier won their local derby against City thanks to Paul Scholes header scored deep into injury time. That win, coupled with Tottenham's result over Chelsea, has left United just one point adrift of first place in the League. Saturday's match is bound to be a cracking affair with both teams needing a vital win to secure their various targets this season - the League Championship for United and fourth place with Champions League football for Spurs, who leapfrogged City into 4th after the win over Chelsea at White Hart Lane.
The reverse fixture at the Lane earlier last September was won 3-1 by United, who became the only team this season to put two or more goals past Spurs at home this season. In fact they are the only team to score more than once at White Hart Lane in the League since Harry Redknapp took over as manager. United took four points off Spurs in the Premier League during 2008-09, as well as winning the Football League (Carling) Cup Final at Wembley on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes.
Manchester United's current squad features two former Spurs players - Michael Carrick who joined United in August 2006 for £18,600,000 and Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov who joined United in September 2008 for £30,750,000. Tottenham's first team coach Joe Jordan was a striker with Manchester United from 1978 to 1981.
TEAM NEWS:
Harry Redknapp is set to welcome back key players for Saturday's huge match at Manchester United. Wilson Palacios is back after a two-match suspension while Jermaine Jenas, Aaron Lennon and Ledley King could all return from injury. Harry Redknapp will wait until after training on Friday to make a decision on winger Aaron, who is back in the frame after missing all of 2010 so far with a groin problem. "Aaron won't start, he's not ready to start again, but he could be available if we need 20 minutes or so," said Harry. "We'll wait and see." That's also the case with Ledley, who wasn't quite ready to face Chelsea last weekend after coming through his return match against Arsenal with flying colours on April 14.
"Again, we'll wait to see how Ledley is today," said Harry. "He played against Arsenal, did a fantastic job and then Sebastien Bassong came back in for Chelsea an he did great with Michael Dawson. "We had to chop and change a lot last week but all the lads who came in all performed for us. We look okay and hopefully they'll all be available. We've got a couple of longer-term injuries but we've almost got a full squad." Niko Kranjcar (ankle) and Vedran Corluka (ankle) join long-term injuries Carlo Cudicini (wrist, pelvis) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) on the sidelines.
Manchester United defenders Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown both return to the squad. Ferdinand has overcome a groin problem and Brown has recovered from a broken toe, but Owen Hargreaves is sidelined with a calf strain.

MICHAEL DAWSON ON MANCHESTER UNITED:
Michael Dawson insists we travel to Old Trafford with no fear on Saturday. It's another key weekend in the race for fourth place - and the title - in the Barclays Premier League. We're two points ahead of City in fourth place while United are a point adrift of Chelsea at the top of the table. We kick-off at 12.45pm and later, City travel to Arsenal for the 5.30pm game with the Gunners still in the title race, albeit now outsiders. Chelsea face Stoke on Sunday. Villa, who have moved to within three points of fourth having played a game more with wins at Portsmouth and Hull, line-up for the all-Birmingham derby against Birmingham City on Sunday. We travel to United having beaten title rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the space of four days last week.
"We go there with no fear whatsoever," stated Michael, in fine form at the heart of defence. "We've just picked up six points against Arsenal and Chelsea, so we go to Old Trafford full of confidence and with nothing to lose. It will be another exciting day and hopefully we'll get something out of it." ‘Daws' felt we ‘probably proved a few people wrong' with those back-to-back derby wins just days after Wembley heartbreak in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. "We've a quality squad here and there is no reason why we can't pick up points against the top teams," he said. "That's what we're striving for and we're working our socks off day in, day out to try and achieve that.
We want to be where Chelsea, United and Arsenal are now on a regular basis. We're still aiming for that and let's hope it can start this season by finishing fourth. It's in our hands now, we've tough matches coming up but let's hope come May 9 it's us."
MARK LAWRENSON'S PREDICTION (BBC):
This is a tough one to call because Tottenham are in such good form and it will be a big scalp should Spurs win. But, as well as they are playing at the moment, I cannot see them getting anything here.
I think United will win to heap the pressure on Chelsea and go on to win all of their remaining games pushing them right to the end in the battle for the Premier League title.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur

LAST TIME WE MET...
Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Old Trafford, Football League (Carling) Cup 5th Round, Tuesday 1st December 2009
Darron Gibson stated an eloquent case for Manchester United's young brigade by scoring twice to send the holders into the Carling Cup semi-final at the expense of Spurs at Old Trafford.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had reacted angrily to criticism levelled at his emerging stars after the defeat against Besiktas that ended their 23-game unbeaten home record in the Champions League.
Ferguson launched a passionate defence of his home-grown products and gave them another chance to impress against Spurs - and 22-year-old Gibson was the star of the show as United saw off Harry Redknapp's side in a repeat of last season's Wembley final.
Gibson opened the scoring with an early long-range finish, then produced an even more spectacular effort just before half-time to put United into the last four on a rain-sodden Old Trafford night.
Spurs' challenge fizzled out after a bright start, with United defender Nemanja Vidic providing experience and a formidable barrier on the rare occasions when the Londoners did threaten.
Jermain Defoe and David Bentley tested Tomasz Kuszczak, again preferred to England keeper Ben Foster in goal, but Spurs went down tamely once United had established a two-goal cushion at the interval.
United's reshaped side almost took the lead inside two minutes when Anderson's shot fizzed narrowly wide with Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes well beaten.
Spurs produced a lively response, with Defoe forcing Kuszczak into a save from the edge of the area, but it was United who made the breakthrough after 16 minutes.
Anderson won possession on the left flank and set up Gibson with an inviting pass which the midfield man drilled low beyond Gomes into the bottom corner.
Another United youngster, Ritchie de Laet, made a crucial contribution as Spurs swiftly attempted to restore parity, making a vital block when it seemed certain Defoe would equalise.
The importance of that interception was underlined when Gibson demonstrated his quality again to double United's lead seven minutes before the interval.
The Irishman was involved in a slick exchange with Danny Welbeck before curling a precise 20-yard finish high and out of the reach of the despairing Gomes.
And Spurs, who actually had the better of the exchanges in the first 20 minutes, almost conceded a third on the stroke of half-time when the promising Gabriel Obertan rolled the perfect cross into the path of Dimitar Berbatov, but the former Spurs striker did not react quickly enough and the opportunity was wasted.
Spurs boss Redknapp made a change at half-time, sending on Tom Huddlestone for the subdued Wilson Palacios.
And they were almost back in the game after 57 minutes when Gareth Bale set up Bentley, but his shot was too close to Kuszczak and he parried the effort to safety.
Bentley then arrived at the far post to get on the end of another Bale cross, but he could only direct his header into the side-netting.
United boss Ferguson then made a double change, sending on Michael Carrick and Federico Macheda for Obertan and Berbatov, while Spurs counterpart Redknapp responded by replacing the disappointing Keane with Peter Crouch.
It was too late to make any difference as United survived without any anxious moments to move a step closer to another Wembley appearance.
